Guidelines
for listing |
|
| |
The
Feline Advisory Bureau (FAB) operates a List of high
quality boarding catteries. This List is available to
the general public and has a wide circulation. FAB invites
boarding catteries to apply for inclusion on the List.
To qualify, catteries must comply with the FAB
Standard for Construction and Management of Boarding
Catteries and as set out in the
FAB Boarding Cattery Manual. The Standard
and Manual aim to ensure a safe environment and quality
care for boarded cats, and to minimise the risk of the
spread of disease. |

The
benefits of being a FAB Listed Boarding Cattery include:
|

|
- backup
and expertise of FAB, a well known organisation
in the field of feline welfare
- wide
publicity via the media (websites, newspapers,
cat magazines, conferences, cat shows)
- circulation
via entry on FAB website, Listed Catteries sheet,
FAB CatCare, provision
of FAB Listed Boarding Cattery logo artwork
for use on cattery literature
- provision
of leaflets on choosing a good boarding cattery
for display in reception area
- provision
of assessment forms (for feedback from clients)
- provision
of an attractive display sign which states ‘
FAB LISTED BOARDING CATTERY – the sign of
a quality cattery'
- certificate
of Listing for reception area (renewed annually)
- Cat
carrier labels
- FAB
website cards
- Full
set of Cat Group policy statements
- FAB
information sheets (currently downloadable from
the FAB website)
- support
of other cattery proprietors
- continuing
information through conferences etc

To
be eligible for Listing, Catteries must:
|
- at
least meet the requirements of the Chartered
Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) Model
Licence Conditions & Guidance for Cat Boarding
Establishments 1995
- be
constructed and managed to FAB standards (as
laid out in the FAB Standard for Construction
and Management of Boarding Catteries and the
FAB Boarding Cattery Manual )
- have
sound knowledge and practical application of
good management standards (as outlined in the
FAB Boarding Cattery Manual )
- Although
not mandatory, it is preferable for applicants
to have completed an FAB Practical Cattery
Management Course
- NB
To avoid disappointment on FAB inspection
it is
vital for applicants to follow the guidelines
set out in both the FAB Boarding Cattery Manual
and the FAB Standard for Construction &
Management of Boarding Catteries

| The
Application for Listing should include: |
- completed
application form, construction and management
sections
- photographs
of general layout of premises, including both
interior and exterior of house and runs (these
can be sent digitally to catteries@fabcats.org
)
- copies
of current brochure, cattery forms etc
- a
one off application fee of £130 + VAT
(15%) £19.50 = total £149.50 (non-refundable)
to cover the cost of administration and visit
to your establishment
- membership
of FAB, currently £30 (VAT exempt). If
already a member of FAB please ignore this amount
|
If
accepted, to maintain Listing (subsequent years),
catteries will: |
- send
an annual fee for Cattery Membership, currently
£45 + VAT (15%) £6.75 = total £51.75
to maintain Listing
- send
an annual fee for membership of FAB, currently
£30 (VAT exempt)
- be
asked to re-affirm management protocol annually
- be
revisited periodically (generally within 3 years
of original application)
- use
FAB logo appropriately
- give
assessment forms to clients
- inform
FAB of:
- changes
to the original application (increase of
units etc)
- sale
of cattery and change of ownership
- closure
of cattery
In
the event of b) or c) or withdrawal from the Scheme,
any sign provided will be taken down or returned
to FAB
NB
For catteries inspected between January
and August members will be asked to pay the full
annual fee for Cattery Membership + membership
of FAB for first subsequent year. Catteries inspected
between September and December will be charged
for membership of FAB only for first subsequent
year. Thereafter, the full Cattery Membership
annual fee + membership of FAB will apply

| Please
note the following important information: |
- FAB
Listing cannot be bought and has to be renewed
annually. It does not automatically pass from
one proprietor to another
- Advertising
must never imply that, if FAB Listed, this applies
to any other activities on site
- Only
officially FAB Listed catteries can claim endorsement
by using the FAB logo and/or statement.
- FAB
reserves the right to remove catteries from
the List without prior notice
- Inclusion
on the boarding cattery List does not imply
approval of any other activity on the part of
the cattery proprietor or at the cattery address
