FAB/PKD results

The following are the results of cats scanned under the FAB screening scheme and through the gene test to May 2008.

In all breeds except Persians,Exotics and British Shorthairs the numbers scanned are too low to provide reliable statistics.

The figures shown here are since the scheme began.  The good news is that, since July 2006 Persians are now runing at 22% positive, Exotics at 10% and British Shorthairs at 5%.  The levels within British Shorthairs were not accurately known when the scheme began as not many were scanned.  However, for Persians and Exotics this is a great improvement.

The fact that no PKD-positive cats are listed under some breeds does not mean that these breeds are clear of PKD - some cats of various breeds scanned positive for PKD before the scheme was introduced.

Other Breeds:

Cat breeds which have been developed using Persian bloodlines and breeds that have allowed out-crossing to Persian cats may also have a proportion of affected cats.

*In other unrelated breeds, PKD is a rare condition. Cysts in the kidneys can occur for reasons other than autosomal dominant PKD which is seen in Persians.
